Mars – Year 3

Welcome to Mars Class

 MARS Curriculum Overview 2017-2018

Our topic for this term is ‘Rainforests’. We will be researching the history of Rainforests, locating them on maps and writing information texts on the animals that can be found in a Rainforest. We have already explored the different animals that live in Rainforests and have made some exciting displays.

In English we will be exploring the book ‘Where the wild things are’. From this we will be using our imaginations to create our own characters and stories. We will incorporate some role play into this. In maths, we will be exploring place value of digits, using all four operations of number and collecting and presenting data in a number of different ways.

Our science focus will be on plants and rocks. We will learn the roles of parts of the plants, investigate what seeds need to grow and how they get dispersed. This will involve growing our own plants and investigating!

We are very excited to be taking part in swimming lessons every Wednesday morning. We must remember to bring in a suitable swim kit in order to join in with these sessions. Homework will be sent home on Thursdays and is due back in class on the following Wednesday morning. Please also remember to read with your child for at least 20 minutes every evening and to sign their reading record with any comments.

In RE we will be thinking about what makes a house a home and understanding the joys and sorrows that come with being part of a family.

Best Wishes,

Miss Leane, Maxine Ryan and Terri Goodey
