Mercury -Year 1
My name is Miss Hanifin and I am your child’s class teacher. In our class, the children have, Mrs Stapleton and Ms Dattoli supporting us with our work too.
In Topic, we are looking at a variety of History, Geography, Art and D&T topics. For example, we will begin by looking at different fairy tales and thinking about storytelling and using words from the past. We will then be looking at the history of the Wright Brothers and the development of planes. We will learn about the history of the Fire of London, life on the Home Front during World War Two and famous inventors.
In English, we will be looking at the features of different text types, such as stories, information texts, Newspaper articles, recounts and many more. Children will be continuing to work hard on their handwriting and they will focus on writing sentences using a range of grammar and spelling rules.
We will be practising lots of number skills this year, looking at adding and taking away on a numberline. We will also be practising counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Please also practise telling the time to the o’clock as we will also be starting to do this.
We have fruit time before break time every day. Please ensure children have a water bottle. If they do not, these can be purchased at the office for £1.00.
A few helpful reminders:
We have PE twice a week. Children must have their PE kit for both days – Tuesday and Thursday. Children must read and have their reading record signed every night.
Homework is due in on Wednesday. It will be marked and returned on Thursday with the next week’s homework.
Thank-you for your ongoing support!
Miss Hanifin

Dear Children,
We hope you are all keeping well.
You will be continuing to learn at home for a few more weeks and we have added some new tasks to your daily learning sheets.
Remember to say your prayers every day while you are at home.
Regards,
Miss Hanifin
