Mercury -Year 1

Welcome to Mercury Class

MERCURY Curriculum Overview 2017- 2018

Mercury class have got a wonderful year coming up and we are going to be learning lots of new skills in our lessons.

In English this term, we will be focusing on creating a range of sentences using the correct features: full stops, capital letters, letter formation and finger spaces. Please practice this with your child during homework which will be sent home on a Thursday and should be returned on Wednesday.

Your child will read with an adult alongside completing different reading activities. To support your child’s confidence in their reading, please continue to read at home every night and ensure their reading records have been signed daily.

Maths this term will be focused on a range of simple number work for children: counting, one more and one less and doubles. We will also cover some aspects of shape. Your child will have a Mathletics password in their reading record which is where you can access their weekly maths homework. Please try to encourage your child to engage with this as it will support their learning from that current week.

Within our history and geography topics we will be looking at our past, creating timelines and our local area. Children will make links to the past of our school and use maps to recognise where we are located.

Our PE day will take place on a Wednesday morning. All children need a full PE kit in school for this. They will be learning a range of different skills and it is vital that they take part in the correct uniform.

Thank-you for your support, we look forward to the year ahead.
