Mars – Year 3
Welcome to Mars Class!
I am Miss Leane and this year I am teaching Mars class. The children also have Mr Davis and Mrs Yasmin in the class supporting them with their learning.
I am really looking forward to having the children back in school and starting our first exciting Topic – ‘Wonder Women’. We will look at influential women in sport, the challenges they faced and how they paved the way for us today. We will look at key history skills through creative tasks. We will also be working on Art and DT skills for our year group which will include designing and making our own racing cars inspired by Janet Ruthie. We will sketch and shade different influential women in sport that we have been learning about.
We will be learning lots of new songs as part of our Charanga scheme whilst using our classroom instruments to support with this.
Our English story this term is ‘The day the crayons quit’. The children will learn the story through role play, text mapping and games. We will explore the text in detail before planning and writing our own stories.
In Maths we will focus heavily on place value so the children’s knowledge is secure to support them in all methods throughout the year. We will use the White Rose Maths scheme and follow a concrete, pictorial, abstract process.
PE with Mr Slade (sport’s coach) is on Thursday and PE with Ms Leane is on Monday. They will also be swimming this term (dates to be confirmed).
The children will have a daily reading lesson at school and will take a text home to read. Children will either take home a reading book or will be set a text on ‘bug club’.
Homework will be set on google classroom on a Thursday and will need to be completed in the child’s homework book and brought back to school for the following Wednesday to be marked.
Thank you for your ongoing support, I am looking forward to a lovely year with Mars class!
