Mars – Year 3
My name is Mr Merillo and I am your child’s teacher for this year. We also have Mr Folan and Mrs Hedderson supporting us with our learning. We have an exciting and busy term ahead, and we are all very excited to get started.
This half term, within Geography we will focus on ‘Volcanoes’. We will be using Atlases to locate countries and different volcanoes on a map. We will further our understanding on how volcanoes work and there different varieties of volcanoes that exist. This will link closely with out Science topic ‘Rocks, fossils and soil.” In the second half of the autumn term we will be studying the History of the ‘Railway Revolution. Within Science we will focus on ‘Light and Shadow’.
We will be learning about ‘Setting Descriptions’ and how to create an ‘Information Report’ in Reading and English this half term. All children are encouraged to read a range of stories and information books to support their progress. Please ensure your child is reading every day at home and signing their reading record daily. Of course, ensure they are bringing in their reading records daily.
We will start the half term by looking at place value of numbers and column addition and subtraction. In the second half, we will continue with column subtraction and move onto multiplication.
We have started the term by looking closely at Saint John the Evangelist. From there our RE topic for this term will be ‘The Domestic Church – Family’.
A few helpful reminders:
- Children will have PE on a Tuesday and Thursday this term. They must bring in a PE kit, which will be kept in their lockers and returned home at the end of the half term to be washed.
- Homework will be set on a Thursday via Google Classroom and Edshed. Children should complete this in their homework book and hand it in by the following Wednesday.
- Children must read and have their reading record signed every night. If this isn’t completed three in a week, then your child will miss a playtime to read with an adult in school.
- Children must bring their own water bottles which must be clear and can be purchased at the school office.
If you would like to speak to me with any concerns or questions regarding your child, please email the office and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
