Mars – Year 3

This half term, within Geography we will focus on ‘Coasts. We will be using Atlases to locate different features of a map. We will further our understanding of our geographic location in the world. Within our Science topic we will be looking at ‘The Power of Forces’. In the second half of the autumn term we will be studying the History of ‘Ancient Egypt’. Within Science we will focus on ‘Health and Movement.’

In English and reading sessions, we will be learning about ‘Adventure Stories’ and how to create an ‘Information Report’. Our class text is ‘Adventure at Sandy Cove’ written and illustrated by Pie Corbett. A free read along can be found on YouTube. All children are encouraged to read a range of stories and information books to support their progress. Please ensure your child is reading every day at home and signing their reading record daily. Of course, ensure they are bringing in their reading records.

We will start the half term by looking at fractions and then reading the time in maths. In the second half term, we will continue with shape and statistics.

We have started the term by looking closely at St John the Evangelist. From there our RE topic for this term will be ‘Pentecost’.

A few helpful reminders:

  • Children will have PE on a Wednesday and Thursday this term. They must bring in a PE kit, which will be kept in their lockers and returned home at the end of the half term to be washed.
  • Homework will be set on a Thursday via Google Classroom and Edshed. Children should complete this in their homework book and hand it in by the following Wednesday.
  • Children must read and have their reading record signed every night. If this isn’t completed three in a week, then your child will miss a playtime to read with an adult in school.
  • Children must bring their own water bottles which must be clear and can be purchased at the school office.

If you would like to speak to me with any concerns or questions regarding your child, please email the office and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for your ongoing support,
