Mercury -Year 1

Welcome to Mercury Class!

My name is Miss Haylett, and I am your child’s class teacher. In our class, we have Miss Goodey supporting us with our work too. This year is an exciting and busy year for us.

In Topic, we are looking at a variety of History, Geography, Art and D&T topics. We are currently studying France, looking at the foods and culture comparing it to the life we know in Britain.

In Science we are learning about Animals including Humans. We will be looking at the five different animal groups, as well as grouping those animals according to what they eat. Finally we will be moving onto the human body and the different senses we have.

In English, we are focusing on explicitly teaching text types like description, recount and information reports.

For Maths, we will be practicing a range of skills including number, shape, addition and subtraction. We will also practice these skills for homework which will be available on seesaw each week – to access this, you will find your child’s username and password in their reading records. We will also be practising counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Please ensure your child comes to school in their full PE kit on a Monday and Wednesday. Our PE day with Mr Slade (Challenge Sport) is on Wednesday and PE with Miss Haylett is on Monday.

Children must read each night and their reading record should be signed by an adult each day. If they do not have their reading record signed twice a week, they will be expected to stay in during their lunchtime to read.

Please ensure your child has a school water bottle which can be purchased at the office for £1. Children will receive a piece of fruit each day for break time.

Thank-you for your continued support.
