Stars – Reception

Mrs Burbridge and Ms Ahmed are the teachers for Stars Class – we also have Ms Galvin and Mr Lazarashvili as our teaching assistants.

This half term our topic is called ‘Our World’. We will be learning about:

Our world, different environments, deserts, countryside, towns.

Animals, Plants and growing, Where we get our foods from.

We will be reading books that focus on the natural world such as ‘The Tiny Seed’, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’, ‘Farmer Duck’, The Three Little Pigs’ and also learning a new rhyme or poem each week.

This half term our rhymes are:

  • Round and Round the Garden
  • There’s a Worm at the Bottom of my Garden
  • This Little Piggy
  • Dingle Dangle Scarecrow
  • Mary had a Little Lamb
  • One Elephant Went Out to Play
  • Ring a Ring o’ Roses

Our learning environment is the indoor classroom and our outside area and children will explore both areas throughout the day. Please ensure children are dressed appropriately for the weather (we will be outside in the winter months) and are provided with a spare change of clothes as children have access to water, sand and our mud kitchen.

Religious Education is at the heart of our learning. We say a morning, lunchtime and end of day prayer which you can practise at home with your child. We also have daily collective acts of worship where we listen to important stories about Jesus and think about what they mean to us with drawing and singing and dancing.

Click here for our school prayer booklet to help your child to learn the school prayers and songs.

A few helpful reminders:

Children need to have spare clothes that are labelled in school. Their clothes may get wet when playing outside and with the water tray.

Water bottles can be purchased at the school office. These must be clear and should be taken home to be cleaned every evening.

Fruit is provided every day before morning break time.

Children will bring home a book to read every day and must read with an adult every evening and have their reading record signed. You can read to your child or with your child, depending on their reading ability.

Children have a PE session every week on Tuesdays but they do not need a PE kit until they join Year 1 (next year).
