Pluto – Year 6

Welcome to Pluto Class!

Pluto Class Timetable

We are the Pluto Class teachers and our names are Ms Hall and Ms Dannatt.

In Summer term, our Topics will be ‘Wild Waters’ and ‘Mexico and the Mayans’. In ‘Wild Water’ we will develop an understanding of the importance of rivers in the earth’s environment and in ‘Mexico and the Mayans’ we will be looking in particular at why the Mayans disappeared.

In English and reading, we will be covering a variety of fiction and non-fiction text types which include poetry, description, narrative and information reports. In summer 1, we will be doing a lot of work to prepare the children for SATs and in summer 2, we will be working to prepare the children for secondary school. In Summer 1, the children will also have intensive swimming, where they go swimming every day for two weeks.

Children need to bring their water bottle in to school every day and ensure it is washed every evening.

A few helpful reminders:

We have PE once a week with a sports coach on Tuesday.  Children must have their full PE kits on Tuesday and bring them home at the end of the week to be washed.

Reading at home – children will be set two Bug Club books on a Thursday, will take home their reading text on a Friday and can then chose a book from the class library one day a week.

Children must read and have their reading record signed every night. In Pluto Class, children must write a comment about what they have read and then have the comment signed by an adult. If this isn’t completed more than twice in a week then your child will miss playtime to read.

Homework will be updated once a week via Google Classroom on a Thursday (the login details for these have already been sent home). Children will be given a homework book to complete the work in. This then needs to be handed in by Wednesday and will be returned on Thursday.  If homework isn’t completed, then children will be expected to complete it at playtime.

Pluto Class should be collected from the junior playground at 3:15pm. If your child is able to walk home on their own, please inform the school office.

As always, please contact me if you have any concerns regarding your child over the next term, either by phoning or emailing the office.

Thank you for your continued support.
