Pluto – Year 6
Welcome to Pluto Class!
We are the Pluto Class teachers and our names are Ms Hall and Ms Dannatt. We are looking forward to an exciting year together.
In Spring term, our Topics will be ‘Journey through Europe’ and ‘Rule Britannia’. In ‘Journey through Europe’ we will develop an understanding of the European Union and in ‘Rule Britannia’ we will be looking in particular at the Vikings.
In English and reading, we will be covering a variety of fiction and non-fiction text types which include poetry, description, narrative and information reports. At the end of the week, a copy of the text the children have been working on in reading will be sent home for the children to re-read and discuss with you. The children will also have lessons on Spanish, Music and Zones of Regulation once a week.
Children need to bring their water bottle in to school every day and ensure it is washed every evening.
A few helpful reminders:
We have PE once a week with a sports coach on Tuesdays and a fitness session once a week. Children must have their full PE kits on Tuesday and bring them home at the end of the week to be washed.
Reading at home – children will be set two Bug Club books on a Thursday, will take home their reading text on a Friday and can then chose a book from the class library one day a week.
Children must read and have their reading record signed every night. In Pluto Class, children must write a comment about what they have read and then have the comment signed by an adult. If this isn’t completed more than twice in a week then your child will miss playtime to read.
Homework will be updated once a week via Google Classroom on a Thursday (the login details for these have already been sent home). Children will be given a homework book to complete the work in. This then needs to be handed in by Tuesday and will be returned on Thursday. If homework isn’t completed, then children will be expected to complete it at playtime.
Pluto Class should be collected from the junior playground at 3:15pm. If your child is able to walk home on their own, please inform the school office.
As always, please contact me if you have any concerns regarding your child over the next term, either by phoning or emailing the office.
Thank you for your continued support.
