Saturn – Year 4 & 5
Welcome to Saturn Class. My name is Ms Oliver and the children are also supported in class by Mrs Harris and Mrs Palmer.
This term our Topic focus will be, ‘Investigating Rivers’. We will be describing how rivers are formed; how the journey of the river progresses from source to mouth and the process of the water cycle. We will also use our skills and knowledge to describe and understand how settlements have been made around rivers as well as studying different rivers around the world.
In English and reading, we will be covering a variety of fiction and non-fiction text types which include poetry, description, narrative, and information reports. Our focus this term will be narrative writing, focusing on writing a setting description using our grammar skills. In Maths, we will be covering place value and the four operations (adding, subtraction, multiplication and division).
The topic focus for RE this term is ‘Family’ and we will be focusing on a deepening awareness of ‘Who I am’ as well as ourselves as made in the image of God. Children will develop their understanding that we have all been gifted with different human qualities which can be developed and the importance of embracing each other’s uniqueness.
A few helpful reminders:
- We have PE twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays. Children must have their full PE kits on both days. These can be left in school until the end of the half term to be washed or your child can bring them home weekly.
- Reading at home – children will take home their weekly reading text on a Friday and will bring home a level appropriate book on the other days. If they are reading a chapter book, they are not expected to change it every day. Children must read and have their reading record signed every night. In Saturn Class, children must write a comment about what they have read and then have the comment signed by an adult. If this isn’t completed more than twice in a week then your child will miss playtime to read.
- Homework will be updated once a week via Google Classroom on a Thursday (the login details for these have already been sent home). Children will be given a homework book to complete the work in. This then needs to be handed in by Wednesday and will be returned on Thursday. If homework isn’t completed, then children will be expected to complete it at playtime.
- Saturn Class should be collected from the junior playground at 3:15pm. If your child is able to walk home on their own, please inform the school office.
As always, please contact me if you have any concerns regarding your child over the next term, either by phoning or emailing the office.
Thank you for your continued support.
