St Josephine Bakhita – Year 6
St Josephine Bakhita Weekly Timetable
Welcome to St Josephine Bakhita Class! My name is Miss Hall and I am your child’s class teacher. We are joined my Mrs Costa as our teaching assistant. We are looking forward to the year ahead. This term we will be learning lots!
In English, we will be following a scheme called ‘CUSP’. We will be revising sentence structure and punctuation before moving on to autobiographical writing, speech writing and writing stories with a moral.
In Maths, we will be focusing on the place value of numbers up to 10 million, the four operations and using these four operations with fractions.
Our RE unit this term is “Creation and Covenant”. In this topic, we will explore the second creation account in Genesis as well as in John’s Gospel, where we will learn about how both accounts reveal truths about human nature and God’s generosity. We will focus on the themes of free will, companionship, responsibility, and original sin. After half term, our unit becomes “Prophecy and Promise” in which we learn how David was called to be a servant king. We will make links between David’s anointing and the way that Jesus is described in the Gospels.
In Science, we will be learning about how electricity works before moving on to the circulatory system. Children will learn about how blood is made, why we need it and how it moves around the body, as well as why we need to keep fit and healthy.
We have two topics this term. We will alternate the weeks that history and geography are taught. Our history topic is “Beyond 1066”, in which we will learn about the impact of World War 1 on London. Our geography topic is “Physical Processes” where we will explore volcanoes in detail.
Our Art unit is learning about drawing, where we will consider perspective and scale, as well as the positioning of objects within artwork. In Design and Technology, we will be completing a unit called “Food and Nutrition” which will enable us to learn culinary techniques and explore food from other cultures.
Helpful Reminders
We will have a PE on Tuesdays. Your child will need a full PE kit (red t shirt and navy shorts/leggings) that is clearly labelled and in a PE bag.
Your child will bring home their reading record and a book to read every night. They should be reading every night and writing a short comment about what they have read. This comment needs to be signed by a parent or guardian. Children should be reading for at least 15 minutes daily. Reading records must be brought into school in the morning where they will be checked and signed by a member of the class team.
Homework will be set every Thursday and is due the following Wednesday.
Your child needs a clear water bottle with fresh water daily.
