Pupil Premium Report
Pupil Premium Funding 2024 – 2025: £208,680
Number of pupils in the school: 221
Percentage of pupils who are pupil premium: 64%
St John Evangelist Catholic School is a one and a third form entry primary school in Islington
with a declining roll and an increasing proportion of pupils identified as pupil premium. The
school is a member of the ‘Maamulaha’ network of Islington schools. Through the network we
determine shared priorities and devise collaborative projects to support teaching and
learning. The work the network commits to has a positive impact on pupils in our settings,
particularly those who are pupil premium.
Twenty different languages are spoken in the school and 49% of pupils are EAL, however only
a few children are at the early stages of learning English. The percentage of pupils with special
educational needs and/or disabilities is above average 33.3% and the percentage with an
Education Health and Care plan is well above average 7.2%. The proportion of disadvantaged
pupils is significantly above average at 69.4% (40% higher than the national average).
Our intention is that all pupils, irrespective of their background or the challenges they face,
make good progress and achieve high attainment across all subject areas. The focus of our
pupil premium strategy is to support disadvantaged pupils to achieve that goal.
High-quality teaching is at the heart of our approach, with a focus on areas in which
disadvantaged pupils require the most support. This is proven to have the greatest impact on
closing the disadvantage attainment gap and at the same time will benefit the non-disadvantaged
pupils in our school.
We aim to ensure quality first teaching through consistent and well embedded whole school
systems and routines; a rich curriculum with a priority on Personal Social and Emotional
Development and which broadens pupils’ cultural understanding; oracy and vocabulary
development from relatively low starting points.
